About The Soul Behind Sol Surf

Hey, I’m Meags – founder of Sol Surf. Growing up my dad was (and still is, at 73 years young) a surfer and although it took a while to impart his love of surfing onto me, I finally 'caught the bug' at 14. From then on, surfing became my life. My social life revolved around surfing, my closest friends were my surfing friends, it became not just a hobby but a passion. After school I decided to study 'Surf Science' at Uni, which moved me to Margaret River, where I further delved into my love of surfing. After this I moved to the Gold Coast to complete a Dip. in Surfing Studies (Sports Management & Marketing) and undertake an internship with Surfing QLD and Ripcurl. My desire to travel took over my life then, and I surfed (and coached) all over the globe. I travelled to California and did two summers as Head Surf Coach for an international summer camp in Carlsbad; I moved to Whistler, Canada for 6 months and learnt to snowboard; I coached in Newquay, England; and I visited/surfed in Mexico, Portugal, Morocco, Canaries, Bali, The Mentawais, The Maldives, South Africa and more along the way.

My travel plans satiated, I decided it time to 'settle down and get a real job'... So, I moved back to WA and completed my Dip. in Teaching (secondary). Lucky enough to land some jobs at WA's top schools, I really enjoyed my time as a teacher but it was never a burning passion. After nearly 8 years of full-time teaching, I started my little business 'Sol Surf Experience'. As I worked both jobs at the same time, teaching kept me financed and Sol Surf kept me alive. Then, 2 years later, I became a mum to my son, Georgio. At this time I decided to leave teaching behind and move full time into my passion and my business. I created a team of the most amazing people to help me bring this business to life and keep it moving while I navigated the crazy realm of motherhood. And now, we're here! Having expanded from humble beginning in Margaret River to international islands: Lombok, Siargao and Sri Lanka... I can't quite believe it's really my work and I am forever grateful to YOU guys for booking my retreats and allowing Sol Surf to exist.

I love my community, I love my work and I love catching waves with you legends!

Thanks for coming. See you soon!

Meags x
